Six Nations Table Tennis Tournament at Lilleshall
The weekend of the 21st and 22nd of June saw Lilleshall National Sports Centre welcome the Cadet 6 Nations Table Tennis tournament, with over 100 competitiors representing France, Netherlands, Germany, England, Denmark and Sweden. The event was a huge success and at the end of the weekend the number one seeds, Antoine Hachard of France and Britt Eerland of the Netherlands took the gold medals as their no 1 seeding indicated they should.
The performance of the day however was a wonderful run from Daniel Lowe of England who won close contest after close contest to just fall at the penultimate hurdle in the semi finals. A bronze medal at these championships was a real achievement however for the “cover boy” of the 6 nations programme.
It all started in the groups; un-seeded Daniel disposed of the no 3 seed, Albin Wemmert of Sweden in 4 sets, Ewout Oostwouder of Netherlands, Lang Qui of Germany and eventual silver medallist Medhi Bouloussia of France all in 5 sets.
In the quarter finals Daniel faced European no 12 Enzo Angles of France, Daniel was really in the zone however and another 5 set win gave him a semi final contest against the no 1 seed Antoine Hachard of France who eventually went on to win the Gold Medal.
In the Girls Martha Travis qualified for the quarter finals taking second place in her group, with losses only to No 4 seed Sarah Barge of France and Emma Vayrynen of Sweden. Her reward was a quarter final match against no 1 seed and European no 7 Britt Eerland of the Netherlands. Martha took the first set but Eerland was not to be denied running off the next three sets to take her semi final place.

Both the Boys Team and Girls events were claimed by a strong French squad, in the Girls event Germany were the runners up while in the Boys it was Sweden. The French did not drop a point in either competition emphasising their relative strength.
For England the Cadet Boys finished 4th after a nail biting fifth set victory from Cosmin Stan of the Netherlands over Zac Zilnesic, 11-9 in the fifth in the final match of the competition, claimed the draw that the Netherlands needed to take third slot.
The Cadet Girls fought hard and took third spot with wins over pointless Denmark and the Netherlands plus a draw with Sweden, an excellent performance in this company.
Lee Moore, Business Manager commented; “This event was important preparation for the Olympics and it was great for the site to get exposure with numerous international squads, where we hope to follow up and secure future oversea’s ‘sports cam’p business.”
