MBE for World Champion Lilleshall Gymnast Beth Tweddle

World champion gymnast Beth Tweddle was among those recognised for services to sport in the New Year Honours list.

Tweddle trains regularly at Lilleshall National Sports Centre using the world class facilities available at the Centre of Excellence, which is also the home of British Gymnastics. All of the facilities at the Centre are available for elite and community sports groups alike and Lilleshall has many local gymnastics clubs holding regular club nights for people who want to train in a World Class facility.

Tweddle was crowned world floor champion in London in October, was made an MBE for services to gymnastics. She has set a number of “first time ever” achievements in her long gymnastics career, including becoming the first British woman to win medals at World (bronze in 2003 and 2005; gold in 2006 and 2009) and at European level (bronze in 2002, silver in 2004, 2007 and 2008 and gold in 2006 and 2009). She is also the 2002 Commonwealth Games Champion on A. Bars and three times World University Games gold medallist.

The seven-time British champion said: “This came as a total shock. Outside of gymnastics it's the biggest honour I have ever received. This showed me how much it meant to the Honours panel, and how much these awards mean to people in general."

Lee Moore, General Manager of Lilleshall commented; “Lilleshall is very pround of its long assocation with British Gymnastics and the key role that Lilleshall has played in helping to develop Worls Class gymnasts such as Beth Tweddle who has been coming to Lilleshall for over a decade”.
