Lilleshall Welcome Team England!!

On the 15th September 2009 Lilleshall National Sports Centre welcomed two famous West Midlands Footballers and rising stars of the England International team. Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young were visiting Lilleshall’s leading Sports Injury Rehabilitation Centre to promote their ongoing charity work with ’Team England’, the Professional Footballers Association’s (PFA) leading charity. During their visit the players were given a guided tour of the Rehabilitation facility which has recently undergone some major refurbishment with top of the range equipment. They also held a press conference and gave up some of their time to pose for photographs and sign autographs.

Lee Moore, General Manager commented “It was a pleasure to show Gabby and Ashley the work we do here at Lilleshall and our patients were certainly surprised at their unexpected visitors! Our dedicated team of practitioner’s work hard to ensure that the wide range of sportsmen who come through our doors received the best support, treatment and care to help them back onto their feet and back into the game as quickly as possible. It’s always appreciated when sportsmen take a genuine interest in our work here.”

The players were visiting the Centre which has a rich history with the Football Association most notably by being the home of the FA School of Excellence until 1999 and was also the training venue for the victorious 1966 England World Cup winning squad, Alf Ramsey himself endorsed the view that Lilleshall could justly claim some credit for England’s famous victory.

As part of ‘Team England’s’ ongoing charity work the England Football team will donate at least £1million to charitable causes ahead of the next World Cup following a collective decision by the team to set up their own charitable trust, the Team England Footballers Charity.
Allied to the financial contribution being made, the Team England Footballers Charity will use the time, influence and reputation of the players to support charities including Children’s Hospices UK; WellChild; the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK and the Professional Footballers Association Charity Initiatives.
