Junior Basketball Standards on the rise at Lilleshall

Over 150 junior competitors had a thrilling time at the Under 14 Inter-Regional English Schools Basketball tournament at Lilleshall National Sports Centre over the weekend 22-23 November. London’s Girls, pictured below, ensured both the male and female titles stayed in the nation’s capital for the second straight year as they literally cruised through their fixtures.

A 51-24 win in the playoff final versus the East region saw them finish the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record as they held their opponents to an average of just under 16 points per game. The performance gives London’s boys and girl’s back to back titles at the national event, which is now set to be held annually at Lilleshall.

An ESSBA spokesman commented; “Lilleshall is a great venue for our event, which helps us to re-inforce high sporting standards throughout the association. The standard of play in the Girls’ Tournament has improved out of all recognition compared to only a few years ago”.

“Lee Moore, General Manager, commented; “Lilleshall is a very safe and secure venue for junior sports participation, and this booking forms part of our wider strategy to attract an increasing amount of junior sports programmes.”
