International Appeal for Oversea’s Gymnastics Squads at Lilleshall
On Saturday 20th March Lilleshall welcomed the majority of the top British, Romanian and German Artistic gymnastics women to the Centre. They were visiting for a 5-day Friendly International training camp and competition to check their preparation on the road to the European Championships in Birmingham (28 April-2 May 2010).
Romania, multiple Olympic, World and European Champions, tested their rejuvenated team in this relaxed Friendly International, as did Germany who entered only three Senior gymnasts, with one of their Gymnasts having to rest after sustaining a slight injury during training on Friday.
Lilleshall provided the perfect setting and excellent training facilities for the International athletes. Recent refurbishments of the Centre and its Gymnastics facility have seen its popularity increase, not just for the GB squad, but for the community as a whole.
It was a pleasure to welcome the visiting teams to Lilleshall as they were as ever friendly and polite. The groups enjoyed their visit to Shropshire and were able to embrace what the Centre and its surrounding area had to offer. The fact that Lilleshall were able to accommodate the groups said plenty about its reputation around the world as a world class facility for training camps and Gymnastics in particular.
From a Gymnastics point of view the impressive international up rise of the British Gymnastics team over the last year has, indeed, increased enormously their image and this Training camp comes to prove their new status.
Lee Moore, General Manager at Lilleshall commented; ”As is becoming almost routine now, the Centre team did a great job to accommodate a range of specific requests from these elite squads, which included additional catering services and flexible meal times to fit around their training regime.”
