Safeguarding vulnerable Adults and Children Policy

Serco Leisure is committed to protecting the rights of the child, the child’s physical and psychological well-being and the safeguarding of the child from all forms of abuse

This commitment also applies to vulnerable adults.

We will operate in ways that best safeguard the interests of children and vulnerable adults.

What is the Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding means:

  • protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • preventing harm to children’s health or development
  • ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child.

Safeguarding children and child protection guidance and legislation applies to all children up to the age of 18.

We will:

• Establish, implement and follow good safeguarding policies and procedures including safe recruitment

• Ensure all staff are aware of and follow the organisation’s safeguarding policies and procedures

• Ensure that all staff receive child protection & safeguarding training.

• Regularly monitor our performance, assess progress and take positive action on safeguarding issues.

What we have done so far?

Both National Centers have committed to designing and implementing an action plan to take positive action to protect children and vulnerable adults at the National Sports Centers.  A safeguarding working group has been established to review our current arrangements and review our policies and procedures moving forwards.

To help facilitate a joined approach we have appointed a lead staff member:
